When someone applies to join a credit union or take out a loan, identity verification should be simple: confirm the applicant is who they say they are and get the loan issued ASAP. In practice, a lot of good applicants get stuck. Most identity checks rely on a single data source, so if that source doesn’t return a strong match, for example, a thin credit file, a recent house move – the application grinds to a halt. The applicant has to dig out a passport, a utility bill, or a bank statement and upload it by hand. An officer reviews it manually (ever fearful of AI fakery). A meaningful share of applicants never come back.
Verify more, chase less
NestEgg’s new Multi-Source ID Verification replaces the single-source check with a scoring model built from everything NestEgg can already see about an applicant.
- One configurable score. The score shows Loan Officers a full breakdown of which sources contributed what, a quality band (Poor, Fair, Good), and a threshold bar comparing the applicant against your credit union’s Accept, Refer, and Decline criteria – and you update those in seconds.

- Signals feed the score: electoral roll history, credit account matches, date of birth consensus, age of oldest credit account (a strong stability signal), and, where connected, a name match via Open Banking.

- A built-in 2+2 compliance gate. Every Accept is checked against the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 standard – at least two independent sources to corroborate identity.
- Warning flags override the score. A possible deceased match, an address never seen on the electoral roll, an undeclared or mail-forwarding address, an alias mismatch, a recent credit union search, or an Open Banking mismatch will all pull a case for manual review.

- Screening against PEPs, sanctions, and criminal watchlists.
- Everything is logged and can be exported giving you an audit trail for every decision.
No extra work, better outcomes
This new, version 3.0, of NestEgg’s ID checks means fewer members stuck chasing paperwork, and faster decisions for your team. Importantly, there’s nothing new to integrate. The score runs on data you’re already pulling for the credit assessment. Compliance and fraud checks happen automatically. Furthermore, because Accept, Refer, and Decline thresholds are set per product, your credit union stays in control of where the lines sit.
Easy to switch on
You don’t need to be using NestEgg’s Decision Engine for loan applications to use ID checks. Multi-Source ID Verification works as its own standalone check. As a result, there’s no change to how you lend, no new integration to build. If you’re already a NestEgg customer, switching it on is a quick conversation with Customer Success.
Next: five ways fraudsters try to beat identity checks
Next week, in part two, we’ll look at how Multi-Source ID Verification helps credit unions spot five of the most common fraud typologies:
- Stolen identity
- Last-minute mandate switch
- Thin file exploitation
- Targeting multiple credit unions
- First payment defaulters
