Proving your identity

All NestEgg lenders are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and Prudential Regulation Authority. Due to this, credit unions are required to confirm your identity before you join and take out a loan.

When you complete an online application, NestEgg will use information from a Credit Reference Agency to check your identity. In most cases this electronic check is enough and there’s nothing else you need to do.

However, if you don’t have a history of borrowing (sometimes referred to as a thin credit file), are new to the UK or have recently moved address, these checks aren’t enough.

In these cases your chosen lender will ask you to produce proof of who you are and where you live.

List A: There should be at least 1 item from the following list for proving your identity:

  • Valid passport
  • UK Photocard Driving Licence (full or provisional)
  • UK/EU Photo National ID Card (containing date of birth)
  • Birth certificate
  • Benefit award letter containing name and National Insurance Number
  • Firearms certificate or shotgun licence
  • Identity card issued by the Electoral Office for Northern Ireland

List B: There should be at least 1 item from the list for proof of address:

  • Government or agency issued document (printed not handwritten) which incorporates your full name and residential address such as: Utility Bill, e.g. Gas, Electric, Water of Telephone bills (not more than 3 months old)
  • Bank, Building Society, Credit Union statement
  • Mortgage statement
  • Council Tax letter
  • Latest Benefit award letter (If not used as ID in list A)
